The drafts are done

Fantasy Football drafting season is gone. I was driving home from my last draft yesterday and wondering if I really need to devote less time to this whole thing next year. I don’t mind the actual process of the draft and I tend to limit my research to some lists I find online and the near-daily e-mail updates I get in my mailbox. That’s a start, do I really need to be getting daily e-mail updates? That’s 5 minutes a day, I bet. Yep, nearly 30 hours a year just reading update e-mails.

Most of my time is wasted not in the draft, but in the 4 months of the season coming on. I’ll be constantly searching the waiver wires in my traditional fantasy leagues, whether they are for money or not. Another flashpoint, why not lower the priority given to free leagues? Therein lies the rub; FFB isn’t about money, but pride (i.e. winning). Competition is competition and you always want to be able to say, “I beat you. Neener, neener, neener.” When a “sport” takes little to no skill, winning truly becomes everything.
