If you can find a way to get ahold of the two-hour Frontline special on the invasion in Iraq, do so. I delayed watching this for quite a while, but it is excellent. It has numerous interviews with US and Iraqi commanders as well as several Iraqi civilians. The focus is on the invasion with some references to the post-war confusion.
For instance, I remember during the execution of the war there were many instances of bombing locations suspected to house high-level Iraqi officials. Most times Saddam Hussein himself was suspected of being in the area. Usually there would be big media fanfare about the hit and obliteration of a building or two. Then endless speculation would ensue as to whether or not Saddam was eliminated. Well, during the execution of the war there were 50 such strikes. According to the Frontline report, none of the 50 strikes were successful in eliminating their human targets. I suppose in retrospect this was par for the intelligence course.
Next Tuesday Frontline will be airing a one-hour report entitled The Insurgency. I imagine it will also be quite interesting. Frontline has aired a couple few reports on Iraq in the past.
