Iraq strategy

Bush released a document apparently defining a strategy for Iraq. A little late, about time, what was he waiting for, etc, etc, etc. But I’m trying to determine if I should read it in entirety or just allow the news filter to give me the highlights. What are you going to do?

October Iraq election

Old but good. A dispatch reporting on the most recent election in Iraq. Definitely an improvement over January’s election.

Kid cannabis

Pretty unbelievable story of a non-descript kid growing a multi-million dollar pot industry in Idaho. Particularly interesting is that the cops in Coeur D’Alene were basically ignoring his industry to focus on meth labs. I have to agree with their decision.

Iraq, media, and politics

An interesting article about the media viewpoint in Iraq.

And another one on perception and political jockeying (emphasis mine):

There is a growing disconnect between Washington and those fighting the Iraq war — between the people sweating in the desert, saddled with making the policy work, and the people in suits and air conditioning, hoping to be [...]

Malaria, shmalaria

The EU ignores DDT science while Africans die. At the very least, the EU appears unable to make use of the most basic strictures of relative thought.

The article even references America’s successful use of the chemical (emphasis mine):

DDT, to give that chemical its more familiar name, works miracles against diseases that are spread by [...]

Delivering sheep

Amazing reporting from Michael Yon.

Minnesota’s vote on torture

Since I’m sure you are wondering, both Minnesota senators voted for the McCain amendment to the 2006 Defense Appropriations Act.

Miers swimming upstream

Hit and Run has been bashing the Miers nomination non-stop. Wallowing through the blog I found an interesting George Will opinion.

It is important that Miers not be confirmed unless, in her 61st year, she suddenly and unexpectedly is found to have hitherto undisclosed interests and talents pertinent to the court’s role. Otherwise the [...]

Miers

What, was Brownie too busy to be considered? Nobody knows anything about this Harriet E. Miers, but isn’t it the wrong time to be crony about selecting a supreme court justice? The best part is some on the right are getting upset because Bush picked a personal crony rather than a party crony. [...]

John “The Weiner” McCain

Oh, and again it’s hard to cheer for McCain. He could provide some sanity from the right. He is pushing the torture issue. But he’s also pushing this silly steroids in baseball thing even harder. Dammit.
