My cohort, Shawn, and his wife are making their way through State by State. Currently they are learning about Arizona. I was able to contribute with a story of my extremely odd connection to a semi-famous Arizonian.

Hi;
I assume you share the name, Barry Hess, with me. That’s a good thing because I’ve only found 17 of us in the whole of the American continent.
I appreciate your story, and the fun of the confusion, but please don’t let people think you answer for me when you are aware of the mistaken identity. Still I realize that sometimes it’s not that easy.
When your story was forwarded to me and you spoke of the persistent woman who played the piano in Peoria (Arizona), it made me smile in remembrance of an encounter of my own.
I was in NYC coming out of the subway and in a bit of a hurry when I was approached by a gentleman who was exceptionally ’sure’ that I was the son of his “good friend”, Paul Newman.
It seemed the greater my insistence that he was mistaken, the greater his determination that he ‘knew’ who I really was. At one point he even winked at me, as if to say, “I get it, you’re going incognito, I’ll keep the secret”. I guess it was ‘our’ secret.
After many fruitless attempts to correct his mistake, I was only able to free myself of the discourse by conceding that I would indeed say “hi” (for him) to mom and dad.
May your adventures in America provide you with many good stories to share.
As always, I remain at your service–
Barry Hess
Is comment #1 the REAL Barry Hess???? Rest assured son–you have always been the REAL Barry to me!
You’ll always be the REAL Barry Hess to me.
To Politico Barry Hess, thanks for stopping by. Rest assured, in the past few years I’ve received few, if any messages, intended for you. If the email address you provided in your comment is appropriate, I can certainly forward correspondence on to you.
To my family, I’m fairly certain the first comment is from Politico Barry Hess. :)
